This morning after some conflict with my wife, I noticed how tense my body was. Often, when I’m feeling lots of charge, frustration, or anger, there's a tendency to tighten—or “lock down” my body— as my armor comes online. Without much space to move, the feelings then become like a roaring fire in a tiny room—so hot that I cannot actually be with them. So this morning, I took myself through this practice of spreading and slowing the energy. Of letting the big feeling move beyond my confined body into the living world around me. Instead of heavy armor that trapped the feeling inside, I let my body become porous. Open to the outside world.
And I share that very practice with you, here. I feel part of the contract in being human on this Earth is we’re given the support of the living world around us. All it takes is an allowing of this strength to hold us and a receiving of the resource that flows in. Suddenly, that roaring fire has a lot more space to burn, we can see it for what it is, and we can receive the gift that all feelings are.
